FGF Books, 2/4/2026 — A sung Requiem Mass in Latin will be held for Robert "Bob" Vandervoort on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 6420 Linway Terrace, McLean, Virginia. All are invited.

Bob died of colon cancer on January 9. He was 52. After learning of his cancer diagnosis in 2023, he retired from his job as Legislative Assistant to Maryland State Senator Michael J. Hough of Frederick, Maryland, and moved back to his hometown of Wilmette, Illinois to be with his mother and family.

A Requiem Mass for Bob Vandervoort will be held on February 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Beloved Church in McLean, Virginia

A week before his untimely death, he became a Roman Catholic, receiving the sacraments and Last Rites of the Catholic Church.

Bob was born and raised in Chicago. He earned a B.A. in International Relations at Boston University. He then worked on Capitol Hill as a legislative correspondent for Senator Phil Gramm (R-TX) and later as a legislative project coordinator for Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL) before starting law school at DePaul University in Chicago. After obtaining his J.D., he practiced family law for four years in Chicago through his firm, Perez and Vandervoort.

In 2010, Bob moved to Washington, D.C. to work for Citizens United and later became the Director of ProEnglish. He also worked for a time for both Congressman Alexander X. Mooney (R-WV) and Maryland Delegate Neil Parrott before taking a job as legislative aid to Maryland State Senator Michael Hough.

Kevin Lamb, one of Bob Vandervoort's closest friends, wrote this about him in Chronicles magazine: "Bob's graciousness, camaraderie, and outgoing personal demeanor will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends".

Here are two of Bob's favorite quotes:

"No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." — Samuel Beckett

"Perfect is the enemy of the good." — Voltaire

May Robert "Bob" Vandervoort rest in peace.
